Dr. Who and Dolls

Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a wonderful blessed holiday season!

I wonder how many Dr. Who fans there are out there in the doll community?  We are Dr. Who fans here and our dollies are too.  I don't have any actual Dr. Who dolls, although I'd like to, but I do have a few Dr. Who related doll accessories.  I though it might be fun to combine them all into a Dr. Who and Dolls post.

Before all the busyness of the holiday season got into full swing, I was having fun sewing and made a few doll t-shirts.  I had some printer iron on transfers left over from another project, so I was able to print out some designs to transform these homemade t-shirts into Dr. Who shirts.

American Girl Kit's shirt sports Hello Kitty as the Doctor wearing a fez with the caption "Hello Doctor".  Kit likes to dress up and pretend to be Rose Tyler (played by Billie Piper), the traveling companion of the 9th Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston and the 10th Doctor, played by David Tennant.

I love the quote from 11th Doctor, played by Matt Smith, from the episode titled "The Big Bang".  When River Song asks him what he has on his head, he replies "It's a fez. I wear a fez now. Fezzes are cool."  Here's a clip from that episode.

Hearts For Hearts Girl, Lauryce, likes to pretend that she is River Song, since she says she has hair just like River's.  Her t-shirt has one of River's famous quotes, "Hello Sweetie!"

Ellowyne Wilde likes to dress up as Amy Pond (played by Karen Gillan), the 11th Doctor's traveling companion, when she wears her red wig.  There is a picture of the TARDIS on her shirt.  For anyone not so familiar with Dr. Who yet, TARDIS stands for Time and Relative Dimension in Space.  The TARDIS is the Doctors time machine and space ship all rolled into one.  It can transport the Doctor and his companions to any point in time and any place in the universe.  It is disguised as a Police Box on the outside and it is "bigger on the inside".

Mini American Girl Felicity also likes to pretend that she is Amy Pond and that the TARDIS takes them into the future and back to the 1700's, which she is from.

Felicity's TARDIS is actually a cookie jar that I found at Books A Million.

Another Dr. Who find from Books A Million was this Mini TARDIS building set.  The blocks and mini figures look like Lego, but the brand is actually Character Building.  Here is the box.

The girls couldn't wait to get started building their very own TARDIS, and the 11th Doctor and Amy Pond mini figures.

 Kit loves the Doctor.

Now on to building the TARDIS.  The set has 53 pieces.

All done and ready to play!

This is an adorable mini set and works great as a doll accessory.

The doors really open and close and the mini figures can fit inside.  The Doctor has a mini Sonic Screwdriver that fits in his hand.

With the doors open here, you can see that the TARDIS is "bigger on the inside".  :)

We found another fun bookstore called 2nd & Charles, that is a subsidiary of Books A Million.

Inside we found a huge life size 3D TARDIS display.  So cute!

My girls had fun hugging the Doctor and shaking his hand.

I found a charm bracelet with a little red telephone booth at Claire's.  It reminded me of a TARDIS, so i decided to make a doll necklace with it.  I painted it with blue craft paint and sprayed it with sealer.  This is what the charm looked like before painting.

Here is Ellowyne modeling the new TARDIS necklace.  A true Whovian!

Lastly, Kit is back to show you her "Trust me, I'm the Doctor" pin with David Tennant as the 10th Doctor.  We found the pin at Hot Topic.

I hope you enjoyed seeing our Dr. Who fan doll accessories.  It is so much fun to find cool doll accessories and props.  I'd love to hear about your finds too.  What do your dolls collect?

Ellowyne, Patience & Maudlynne

These are my three newest girls from Tonner and Wilde Imagination.  All three were ordered from the Tonner sale a couple weeks ago.

Maudlynne, Ellowyne, & Patience

I received a question from Nicolette, asking if Maudlynne would make a good pal for Patience.   That's an excellent question, so I decided to answer it here, in case anyone else was wondering the same thing.  By the way, if you like Ellowyne, you should definitely check out Nicolette's blog, Dilly's Dolly Blog.  She has some very beautiful pictures of all of her Ellowyne dolls, plus great links to sewing patterns, craft tutorials and more.

To answer Nicolette's question, I think Maudlynne and Patience would make great pals actually.  They are very compatable in size.  As you can see from the pictures, Maudlynne and Patience both have larger heads, whereas Ellowyne has a smaller head more proportionate to her body.   Here's another picture to better show their size comparison in height and proportion.  Ellowyne is 16" tall, Maudlynne is 15.25" tall, and Patience is 14" tall.

A Friendship Story

"Maudlynne, I'd like to introduce you to Patience, " said Ellowyne.

Getting to know each other.

Budding friendship.

"Let's put our heads together and think of something fun to do."

"I know what we can do," Patience whispers.

"Come on Maudlynne, let's go outside."

"It's such a beautiful fall day!"

Friendship in bloom.

Sharing secrets.

Friends Forever

What do you think?  Do Maudlynne and Patience make good pals?  I would love to hear everyone's opinion on how these two look together.   Leave a comment below to let me know what you think.  And if you have any questions, or a request for anything you'd like to see posted here, please let me know.

Ellowyne's New Handmade Dress

Ellowyne has inspired me to sew her a dress.  After exhaustively looking through all the doll clothes in the house, and not finding anything that fit or suited her, I started looking online to order a dress.  I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for though.  I had an idea of what I wanted... something befitting her personality.  It had to be charming, delicate, glamorous, romantic, graceful, and dreamy (just a few of my Ellowyne's personality traits).

I knew in my mind what I wanted the dress to look like.  The problem was I didn't have a pattern.  I decided to lay Ellowyne down on a piece of paper and trace her outline.  I kind of made my own pattern by sketching  the dress I had in mind on to her paper outline.  I added some for the sides of the dress and seam allowances and began cutting and sewing.  I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, for a first attempt without a pattern.

So here is Ellowyne modeling her new dress.

I had so much fun sewing this dress for Ellowyne, and I'm sure there will be more to come.  A girl needs more than one outfit, after all.

Meet Ellowyne Wilde

The eagerly awaited Ellowyne Wilde has arrived.  She is from Wilde Imagination, which is a division of Tonner.  I ordered "Essential Ellowyne Five" last week directly from The Tonner Store in New York.  This version of Ellowyne is sold out on Wilde Imagination's website, but she was still available from The Tonner Store.  Ellowyne comes in a lovely shoebox style box.

Ellowyne is super easy to get out of the box.  Just untie her satin ribbons and lift her out of the box.

Essential Ellowyne Five comes dressed in a white two piece camisole and shorts outfit and lace stockings.  She also comes with a pair of designer shoes and a saddle stand.  She has a beautiful long blonde wig.  Some Ellowyne dolls have rooted hair and some have wigs.  I wanted a wigged Ellowyne so that I could have the versatility of changing her look simply by changing her wig.  Also, some Ellowyne dolls have painted eyes and others have inset glass eyes.  Both are beautiful, but I really love the inset glass eyes and long rooted eyelashes.  Here she is just out of her box, still wearing her hairnet and wrist tag.

She has 12 points of articulation (neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, torso, hips and knees).

"It was a dreadfully long trip.  A frappuccino would be nice."

Here is a closeup of her beautiful blue inset eyes and long lashes.

This is the little card that was in her box and the tag that was on her wrist.

She has a saddle style stand.

She came with an adorable pair of white designer shoes fit for a princess.

Her wig is super silky, made from saran, according to the WI website.  There are two velcro dots to keep the wig securely in place.  I'm pulling the wig back so you can see the velco dots here, but otherwise you can not see the wig cap at all.  You can't even tell it's a wig.

If you look closely at her ears, they appear to be pierced.

She is beautifully sculpted and stands 16" tall.  In person, she seems really big and rather sturdy.  Since the Moxie Teenz  are just over 14" and Ellowyne is 16", I thought I might be able to get away with dressing her in an extra Moxie Teenz dress temporarily.  Looks good from the front, right?

The back is a no go though.  It's not even close to closing.

I thought I'd go ahead and do a side by side comparison with my Moxie Teenz Melrose.  It's probably not fair to compare them, since Ellowyne is a collector doll and Moxie Teenz are play line dolls. But Melrose is the fashion doll closest in size to Ellowyne (that I have).  The difference in size is only 2 inches, but it actually looks like a lot more.

They both have inset eyes and rooted lashes.

They have similar articulation, but there is a major difference in the quality of their vinyl.  There is a size difference in their thickness too, which is hard to pick up on camera.  It makes Ellowyne feel much more substantial though.

Since the Moxie Teenz outfit didn't fit, next I tried Hearts 4 Hearts doll, Dell's outfit.  The cut off denim shorts just don't go well with lace stockings and designer shoes though.  Dell's clothes are just a little too small also.  Like the Moxie Teenz, Hearts 4 Hearts dolls are only 14" tall, so Dell is a lot smaller than Ellowyne.

The color of Dell's floral blouse looks lovely on Ellowyne though.

I must admit, I am captivated by Ellowyne.  She is the first doll that I've ever actually wanted to sew clothes for.  Partly out of desperation, because I have nothing suitable for her to wear.  But mostly because I am inspired to design a certain style for her, to fit the personality that I imagine my Ellowyne to have.
